For now, here are the briefest of facts: Steven P Hughes was installed as Chaplain, June 28, 1988. Before that date, Steve had been working extensively in Romania, where he and his wife Mandy created, developed and consolidated several non-profit organizations for assistance to children. All of his NGOs are active even now, in his absence, and do much to help the social fabric of central Romanian childrens' needs. On September 13, 2001, Steve organized and officiated a Special Service for the WTC victims, attended by the Romanian President, Ion Iliescu P.M. Nastase, the U.K. Ambassador, the U.S. Ambassador, and many other dignitaries. Steve was one of the founding organizers of the "Week of Prayer for Christian Unity" in Bucharest. Under this great December program, each evening of the special week, there are ecumenical services, with exchange of preachers, in churches of different denominations around the city. The program is ongoing, and does much to promote good will and cooperation between the churches of the city. Steve was reassigned ("promoted") to another post within the Anglican church in 2002.
